Kitchen Worktops – Adding Convenience And Style to a Modern Day Kitchen

A kitchen worktop generally refers to a flat horizontal work surface in a kitchen generally installed above and supported by cabinets. Considered as an integral part of any modern kitchen, worktops add a lot of convenience and style. Apart from the wooden cabinets, accessories, countertops and electro domestic gadgets like chimney, oven, sink, dishwasher etc. a kitchen worktop is also a very essential entity of a modular kitchen. These worktops are available in the form of various materials, most common among which are granite, hardwood, laminate, stainless steel, glass and Corian. Irrespective of the materials used a new kitchen worktops turns even the simplest kitchen set-ups look attractive. In fact they are considered very good investments in terms of home renovation as they add value to the form of any kitchen apart from imparting a unique charm on the looks.

A kitchen top made of granite or any other natural stone is first cut and finished in the shop of a fabricator. The edges are smoothed and curved commonly by hand-held routers or grinders and the finished product is then installed on the job site by experienced professionals. Wooden worktops are also very popular as wood is one of the most eco-friendly options. But it is important to clean such worktops thoroughly and disinfect them particularly after contact with food such as raw meat. Treating them with Danish oil will provide a water-proof barrier to ward off spills and stains, but it must be repeated on a regular basis. Use of granite for worktops is also very prevalent as they look very stylish and contemporary. They are very easy to maintain in comparison to other worktops and they are also most durable. Whereas laminate worktops have the biggest advantage of being cost-effective. While they might not be comparable to those made of granite, quartz or any other composite materials in terms of durability, they exhibit good waterproof capability. Stainless steel worktops are more apt for commercial establishments like restaurants and hotels where large worktops are required.

Space management is perhaps the most important aspect of a modern-day kitchen and it largely encompasses convenience as well. A Kitchen worktops provides the platform for cooking operations such as cutting, mixing and preparing while utilising the used space of cabinets that might generally hold frequently used utensils and kitchen accessories. It can be said that the entire functioning of a kitchen revolves around a conveniently located worktop.
